The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme is the UN Organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming and mobilizing volunteers.
The UNV Internship offers the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNV’s work and is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in development and volunteerism. It may also complement other studies such as international relations, communications, media relations and social sciences. The objective is to enhance the intern’s educational experience through practical work assignments and to allow selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the United Nations.
Description of Responsibilities:
The UNV programme Intern provides support to and is under close supervision of the UNV Programme Assistant. The intern is responsible for the following duties:
Support the recruitment of international and national volunteers to support the work of various UN agencies in Vietnam;
Support development of joint publications and networking activities with volunteer involving partners;
Support in developing contents for UNV website and social media channels, as well as other communications products;
Support in capacity building activities for UN Volunteers and UNV personnel to optimize the impact of volunteers and volunteerism;
Support administrative work and office logistic maintenance of the UNV Programme Field Unit;
Translate documents from English into Vietnamese and vice versa;
Other duties assigned by the UNV Programme Assistant.
The intern is also expected to strengthen his/her knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and other publications.
Learning opportunities for the intern:
General understanding of the work and mission of the UNV programme, and of volunteerism’s contribution to peace and development effectiveness;
Insight and hands-on experience with UNV research, policy analysis and volunteer learning and knowledge management activities;
Insight and hands-on experience in UNV’s role in advocating and promoting volunteerism for peace and development;
Become more familiar with working in a United Nations/international organization and in a multicultural environment.
Duration of the Assignment and Duty Station:
The duration of the internship is for three (3) months. The Intern is expected to work full time in the UNV Programme Field Unit Office. The main duty station is Hanoi.
The applicant should meet one of following minimum qualifications and experience:
Education: Completed undergraduate degree (Bachelor) and/or current enrolment in a Master’s degree or equivalent;
Field of study: Development-related fields such as economics, international relations, anthropology, sociology, public or business administration, or environmental studies. Other relevant fields of study may also be considered;
Language skills: Written and spoken proficiency in English;
Demonstrated interest in the field of development and the work of international organizations.

PLEASE NOTE: the UNV Internship is unpaid. The intern will be fully responsible for her/his insurance. The Intern is not entitled to apply for a regular position or hold a consultancy or contractor agreement with the United Nations either during the internship.
